Mr. Albert Barnes a 68 year old New Orleans native born and raised discusses his life. In the film, he discusses his life starting off with discussing his family and him being the youngest of 4 older siblings. He discusses growing up in a modest household with both of his parents and how him being the youngest allowed him to be able to receive special treatment over his older brother and sisiters. He also talks about growing up in a time where things were a lot different then what they are now. In the film he discusses the military and how social issues in the past help shaped him into the man that he is today. Dealing with segregation and integration has affected him and his life. Mr. Barnes was raised by both of his parents in a modest neighborhood with 3 other siblings allowed him a chance over other blacks in his neighborhood at the time. During that time, it was very important for a young black male to be able to grow up with both of his parents in the household. Mr. Barnes was 19 at the time he decided to join the air force. At the time, he joined he had been living in the south his whole life and never experienced visiting outside of the south. He joined the military to have a chance to travel the world and be able to have stories to tell his family and see things he had never seen before. He joined the military as a personal specialist office clerk. As a personal clerk, he was responsible for making sure that soldiers were where they were suppose to be and following directions as they were told. He was also was responsible for a lot of paper work and documents regarding other air force men. He loved what he did and cherished every moment he spent in the air force. In this incredible short film, you will hear Mr. Barnes discuss his early childhood and how it was growing in time with segregation and how it affected him and his upbringing. In this film, you will also see Mr. Barnes mention a lot about change. Referring to how social issues in America at the time he was coming up has affected him and how he looks at today’s social issues regarding politics, and race relations. He influences change and how change as impacted everyone today including himself and other people around him . In the film he is so humble and discusses his life in a way that is very captivating and energetic for his age. He shows and proves that what he has done and been through in his life has helped shaped him into the God fearing, loving husband and parent that he is today.
